LAST SERVICE
The last service is directed by Yi Gao. The film tells a story about a Taiwanese restaurant permanently closed after running 20 years.
This film captures the process of Okii Mama closing its doors after 20 years of operation. Unlike a traditional narrative, this film also tells the story of the owner's daughter-in-law, Sherry Huang—why she came to Columbia, Missouri, and why she decided to close the restaurant she had dedicated two decades of her life to.
As my first film, I hope to use this project to tell a small part of the Asian immigrant experience, documenting the challenges, decisions, and moments that define their lives. Through this story, I aim to highlight not just the end of a business but the personal journey and cultural connections behind it.
